SENEGAL – HIP HOP

A worthy representative of a female hip hop scene that is increasingly asserting itself in Dakar, Mina La Voilée is working on a new project, entitled “Ma peau”, to denounce the harmful effects of skin whitening, a practice that is still very much in evidence in Senegal and throughout West Africa.

Singer, pianist, composer and producer, Gaspard Sommer evolves as a free spirit in the soul, chanson française and hip hop scene of Geneva. He is part of the new generation of Swiss artists who are exporting themselves internationally.

The only female kunde (one-string guitar) player in Burkina Faso, Kalam The Queen of Kunde, has been on her way to emancipation for five years. Formerly a victim of an arranged marriage, she now considers herself “married to music” and always appears in public wearing a mask. In November 2022, she will be one of the few French-speaking artists participating in Access, the leading music fair on the African continent.

The Swiss-Albanian singer has long been interested in West African music. Her recent project with Bob Luft shows her determination not to be confined by predefined categories.

RWANDA – SINGER – SONG WRITER

While living in Canada, Mighty Popo led an afro-pop fusion band. A Rwandan born refugee in Burundi, he is a connoisseur of the region’s traditional music. Since he resettled in Rwanda where he created a music school, he has developed a solo musical project where he plays the inanga (traditional East African guitar) between
whispers and blues.

Blick Bassy is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, writer and producer. Co-founder of Show-me, he also runs his own label, Othantiq AA, on which he released the first album of the rapper Ami Yerewolo, one of the participants of Show-me in 2020.
