Pilani Bubu

Composer, creative entrepreneur and TV presenter, Pilani Bubu offers a contemporary folk-soul sound with jazz and funk bursts, all rooted in South African folklore. With her smooth and refined voice, Pilani travels the world and performs on European and African stages such as the Live in Accra Jazz festival (Ghana), Jazz on The RoofTop (Romania) and the Ploiesti Jazz festival (Romania). After releasing the EP Journey of a Heart in 2012, then a first album in 2016 Warrior of light, this young woman gave us Folkore – Chapter 1 in 2019. The album was awarded at the South African Music Awards in August 2020 and received the prize for Best African Adult contemporary album. With Folklore-Chapter 1, poetic and spoken-word interludes highlight a deep commitment to the preservation and development of South African cultures. Pilani sets herself up as a true ambassador and uses music as a platform to capture and preserve her cultural heritage.
